Will Buckley's return to his native north west resulted in his first Championship goal as he netted the opener in Watford's 1-1 draw at Preston.

The livewire forward gave his side a 35th minute lead at Deepdale on Easter Saturday after latching onto Heidur Helguson's through ball and lashing it into the top corner after outpacing French star Youl Mawene.

Buckley, who is represented by My First Agent, joined the Hornets from Rochdale in January, and has made five appearances for Malky Mackay's side since recovering from injury.

Elsewhere on the same day, Ryan Kidd's first game as assistant manager at Darlington ended in success as his new side triumphed 2-1 at Burton Albion.
